Tomorrow, January 6, 2023 will mark the inauguration of a brand new art gallery in Lexington, the Children’s and Youth Gallery, with an exciting exhibit of young artists from Redwood!
“Fledgling Voices” will feature the work of students inspired by naturalist John James Audubon’s artistic and scientific masterpiece “Birds of America” – a pioneering book that revealed the variety and beauty of American birds to the rest of the world. Redwood students have created artworks inspired by the book and their cross-curricular study of both the artistic and scientific principles involved in Audubon’s work. As a school committed to conservation and environmental sustainability, students focused their study during this unit on conservation efforts. This exhibit also invites students and spectators alike to consider the best way to be both admirers and responsible stewards of our birds, whose populations have dwindled alarmingly in the last several decades.
Fledgling Voices will open at the Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center, 141 East Main Street, Lexington, on Friday, January 6, 2023, 6-7:30pm with a reception open to the public.
The show will run through Saturday, March 4. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Thursday: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Friday: 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., Saturday: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m
